It's Only Natural -- Our Favorite Sustainable Sheets
Step aside cotton -- bamboo is having its moment in the sun as a favorite material for creating soft, sustainable sheets.
And for good reason. Not only is bamboo extremely easy to grow, the fibers it's made of are impossibly soft and get more supple with every wash.
Sustainable, soft and strong
Even though it can get as tall as a tree in a single growing season, bamboo isn't a tree at all — it's a grass. It requires virtually no pesticides or complex fertilizers and can survive even in shallow, rocky soil.
Another interesting fact about bamboo: it has a tensile strength stronger than steel. That means fabric made from bamboo fibers is extremely durable, even after many washes. It's also naturally breathable, moisture-wicking, hypoallergenic and silky soft.
Here are a few of our favorite bamboo sheets:
Stay in bed all day with the softest sheets you have ever felt. Pom Pom At Home's luxurious 100% bamboo sheet set is silky-smooth, with a beautiful drape and soft sheen. It comes in four neutral shades to match any décor: ivory, white, ocean and sand. Learn about the sheet set here and the duvet cover set here.
Yala's Bamboo Twill sheets get better with age — the more you wash them, the softer they become. Washing is no-fuss also: just toss them in the machine with a gentle detergent and cool water and pop them in the dryer afterward. Yala never uses anti-wrinkle agents or chemicals, so you can feel good about what's up against your skin. The fibers are created from organically grown bamboo and colored with low-impact dyes. Other sustainable options
These sheets are made from a modal fabric created from beechwood. As easy to care for as cotton but as supple as silk, SDH Legna sheets are a guilt-free luxury. Woven in Italy to SDH’s exact specifications for color and design and meticulously finished to their stringent standards of beauty and quality, Legna Classic sheets are also completely biodegradable.
Pine Cone Hill's Silken Solid collection is another soft and sustainable option for linens. These linens are made of TENCEL, fibers created from sustainable wood sources like eucalyptus. Learn more about TENCEL here.
Silken Solid bedding is softer than silk, cooler than linen, more absorbent than cotton and sustainably derived from renewable wood resources and processed in a 99% recyclable closed loop system. The entire collection is on sale Feb. 17-22.
Towels and robes, too
Not just for sheets — bamboo fibers are extra absorbent, making them perfect for towels and robes. A few of our favorites:
Minimalist with a touch of style, these plush, absorbent towels are available in four neutral tones that will fit any décor.
They're highly absorbent, constructed with terry loops that are 60% rayon from bamboo and 40% from cotton.
Constructed of a cotton/bamboo blend, these unique waffle-weave towels are woven and finished in Turkey for maximum absorbency.
The towels in SDH's Legna collection are finished with a modern banded edge but the soft loop is a timeless terry crafted from 100% cellulose. They're decadently soft and impossibly absorbent.
Add some color to your life with these plush towels made of a blend of cotton and natural modal. Absorbent enough for daily use yet gorgeous enough to enjoy while hanging on the rack, these towels come in a variety of fun colors.
